“According to Siu Ding, there’s an exhibition in Thailand that would like to have some custom dolls and she invited me to get a Blythe done with the theme “Princess of Love”. Let’s see how we can get through it.”
“That theme reminds me of DÃLICES,” I replied absent-mindedly. “Oh we can make use of the feathery girl and that would save us time if we must get it done within 2 weeks...” I stopped in the middle of my sentence when I figured out what’s wrong. “Wait, wait, you mean Blythe?”
Good Gracious! A Blythe! I’d never thought that we could have the chance to custom a Blythe this soon, and it delighted me. For Blythe it is like the origin of everything that relates “dolls” to me. On the other hand, it also amused me a lot to relate Blythe with Kenji, who for the most part concentrates his works on Pullip or Taeyang and rarely customize a Blythe.
Next day I got Kenji’s email with his idea about the meaning of the number of flowers in a bouquet.
“This is concept 1. The straight forward approach of my idea is to get someone from the flower shop to wrap the custom doll up like a bunch of bouquet.
Concept 2: Kiss… Lip prints… I can’t think of the outfit though, perhaps you can give me some input.
By the way, I have accepted the invitation from Groove INC about a sample photo shooting for the coming Steam Punk Series. Will get the dolls end of this week and I’ll help to brainstorm some ideas for shooting it. Brief you in detail when we meet next time.”
Though I felt very excited for the sample shooting, for the first time it stroke me that I had some better idea with concept 1, so I voiced my thought and replid him:
“Why not treat the doll as a flower, with the body as the stem and the head as the corolla? If so I have some ideas about the treatment for the body… The makeup for the doll could be more dramatic I think, and I also wonder should we replace the hair like what you did with the feathery girl? Though I have yet to find the perfect material for hair that would look alike petals.”
After a few more exchanges of emails and phone calls, we started to work on our own and agreed to meet up 2 weeks later.
